Replay value

Schäferstündchen has a high replayability score due to its high variability gameboard, impactful expansions, deep strategic possibilities, and good scalability. The game offers fresh experiences each time it is played and allows players to discover new tactics and strategies. The player interaction score is moderate, but the game adapts well to different player counts without compromising its appeal or balance. While it may take some time to learn, the depth it offers makes it worth the effort.

Luck profile

Schäferstündchen has a moderate level of luck involved in the game. Random elements such as dice rolls or card draws have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. However, players have substantial ability to mitigate the effects of randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role. Overall, Schäferstündchen strikes a good balance between luck and strategy.

Overview

In Schäferstündchen — which is playable by four, six or eight players — you are either a bandit or a citizen in the battle for sheep. Race into the valley and fight with the other players over a herd of sheep. Play cards to stop the others from advancing or weaken them while you make yourself as strong as a shepherd can be. Each player plays a card for himself and for another player face-down. Then the cards are turned face-up and the effects are resolved. The cards can either make a player stronger/faster or they can have several weakening effects. After that you move your figure towards the valley where the players fight over the sheep by comparing their modified fighting skills. The strongest ones take a sheep home, just to start another race towards the valley next turn until no sheep are left. The one who collected the most sheep wins.
