Railway Boom is an economic network game set during Japan’s rapid rail expansion from the Meiji era onward. Each of four rounds contains six phases, with auctions deciding the order for the most contested actions. Players acquire and upgrade locomotives, extend tracks across the shared map, develop stations and companies, and advance distinct income resources that must fund the next burst of growth. Route cards reward useful connections, while public objective cards reveal scoring multipliers only as the rounds unfold, forcing every tycoon to balance immediate efficiency with long-term positioning. After the fourth round, objectives, remaining resources, and railway length are scored; the company with the most victory points has shaped the era.
