Welfen und Staufer (Guelf and Ghibelline) depicts the conflict between the most influential noble families in Germany 12. century - the Welfen and the Staufer. Both players try to have one of their family members crowned king (and later kaiser) by influencing the other German nobles, e.g. by conquest. The board shows a beautiful map of Germany, France and Italy in medieval style, and uses lots and lots wood tokens with the (historically correct) coat of arms of the German nobility.
