Table feel

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth in confrontation. Players frequently need to be aware of and react to others' strategies and turns. However, the game does not emphasize cooperation as much.

Replay value

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization has a high replayability score due to its variability in gameplay, strategic depth, and adaptability to different player counts. The game offers different experiences each time it is played, with multiple paths to victory and variable setups. The presence of expansions adds new content and gameplay elements, enhancing the overall experience. The game allows players to improve their strategy over time, discovering new tactics and strategies. The player interaction score is moderate, and the game scales well with different numbers of players. While it may take some time to learn, the depth it offers makes it worth the investment.

Luck profile

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization has a final luck score of 8, indicating a low influence of luck on the game outcome. The game relies more on player decisions and strategy rather than random elements. Strategic decisions and planning have a substantial ability to mitigate randomness, allowing players to have a significant influence on the game's outcome. While there is still a balanced mix of luck and strategy, luck plays a minor role in determining the game's outcome.

Overview

Through the Ages is a civilization building game. Each player attempts to build the best civilization through careful resource management, discovering new technologies, electing the right leaders, building wonders and maintaining a strong military. Weakness in any area can be exploited by your opponents. The game takes place throughout the ages beginning in the age of antiquity and ending in the modern age. One of the primary mechanisms in TTA is card drafting. Technologies, wonders, and leaders come into play and become easier to draft the longer they are in play. In order to use a technology you will need enough science to discover it, enough food to create a population to man it and enough resources (ore) to build the building to use it. While balancing the resources needed to advance your technology you also need to build a military. Military is built in the same way as civilian buildings. Players that have a weak military will be preyed upon by other players. There is no map in the game so you cannot lose territory, but players with higher military will steal resources, science, kill leaders, take population or culture. It is very difficult to win with a large military, but it is very easy to lose because of a weak one. Victory is achieved by the player whose nation has the most culture at the end of the modern age.
