Table feel

The game has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth in confrontation. Players need to frequently pay attention to and react to each other's strategies and turns. However, there is a lower emphasis on cooperation as players mainly compete against each other rather than work together.

Replay value

The game offers a high level of variability with different experiences each time it is played. The presence of expansions adds new content and gameplay elements, enhancing replay value. The strategic depth allows players to improve their strategies over time, discovering new tactics. The game scales well with different numbers of players without compromising its appeal or balance. While it may take some time to learn, the depth it offers makes it worth the effort.

Luck profile

The final luck score for Operation Typhoon: The German Assault on Moscow, 1941 is 7, indicating a moderate level of luck influence. Random elements have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. Players have substantial ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role.

Overview

SPI's Operation Typhoon simulates German attempt to capture Moscow 1941. It uses a variation of the Panzergruppe Guderian system that eventually became the Victory in the West system (including Patton's Third Army, Operation Grenade, and Sicily). This is a big game, three maps but is a very playable monster game and a terrific multi player game. It was the first SPI game to use the concept of variable unit strength. Units are rated for size and morale but actual strengths (fog of war) are determined by drawing a chit randomly at the point where your unit first enters combat. 2.5 miles/hex (4.0 km/hex). 1 day/turn. Three 22" x 34" maps. Units are regiments (for the Germans) and divisions (for the Russians). (Based on information from advertizing material uploaded onto BGG images.)
