Mattix offers a high level of variability with its gameboard, expansions, and strategic depth. The game scales well with different player counts and has a moderate learning curve. Overall, it provides a fresh and engaging experience with a good replayability score of 8.0.
Mattix has a moderate level of luck involved in the game. Random elements such as dice rolls or card draws have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. However, players have substantial ability to mitigate the effects of randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role. Overall, Mattix strikes a good balance between luck and strategy, making it an engaging and challenging board game.
64 numbered tiles (valued from -10 to +15) are randomly distributed face down on an 8X8 grid. One tile has the Orda logo and is removed at the start as a marker. Players (columns vs. rows) alternate turns moving the marker orthogonally to any other tile, removing the tile and scoring the tile's value. The next player must move the marker from it's current location. The game ends when the marker cannot make a legal move or the board is empty. The player with the highest total wins.
