Table feel

Maji has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth in confrontation. Players need to frequently pay attention to and react to each other's strategies. However, there is less emphasis on cooperation in the game.

Replay value

Maji offers a high level of variability in each playthrough with its diverse gameboard and multiple paths to victory. The presence of expansions adds new content and gameplay elements, enhancing replay value. The game provides deep strategic possibilities and allows players to improve their tactics over time. The player interaction score is moderate, and the game scales well with different numbers of players. While it may take some time to learn, the game offers a good balance between easiness and depth. Overall, Maji has a strong replayability score of 7.8 out of 10.

Luck profile

Maji has a moderate influence of luck. Random elements have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. While players have some ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions and planning, luck still plays a significant role. The game outcome is a balanced mix of luck and strategy.

Overview

It‘s dusty, hot and dry. The Serengeti is no desert, but in the summer, especially when the rain stays off, it is essential to provide enough water for the people and cattle herds. The village community voted that a new well is required, for the next dry season will be harder than ever before. Smart people with knowledge about the vast savanna and the ability to find water and clay deposits are called to build the best well. This task is difficult enough, but the wild buffaloes are also interested in the waterholes and they do not hesitate to destroy the wells under construction. Maji is an abstract strategy game for two well-builders from 10 years played on a 5x5 grid of Serengeti tiles, which show adobe bricks, buffaloes or waterholes. The goal is to finish a well consisting of six well pieces and gather enough water gems, before the other player does. —description from the designer
