One player commands nine members of the Fellowship while the other controls nine servants of Sauron. Character identities stay hidden in their stands as both armies advance across a compact map of Middle-earth. When enemies meet, their unique powers are revealed and each player secretly commits a combat card; used cards remain unavailable until the rest of the hand cycles. The sides are radically asymmetric: the Fellowship wins by carrying Frodo into Mordor, while Sauron can kill the Ring-bearer or invade the Shire. Every move is therefore part deduction, part bluff, and part route denial.
