Table feel

The Far Seas has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth in confrontation. Players need to frequently pay attention to and react to each other's strategies and turns. However, the game does not require a significant level of cooperation.

Replay value

The Far Seas has a high replayability score due to its high variability gameboard, impactful expansions, deep strategic possibilities, and good scalability. While it may take some time to learn, the game offers a fresh and engaging experience each time it is played.

Luck profile

The Far Seas has a moderate influence of luck. Random elements have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. Players have substantial ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role.

Overview

2 player game depicting the hunt for Merchant raiders at the start of World War I. The map shows the whole world. Objective is to sink the German raiders (Allies) or attack convoys and avoid the hunters (Germans). The German player plots his movement, then the British player moves, and then the German player reveals and makes his moves. This game was later covered by Tactics magazine #49 in Japan. I heard this version used a different developper, probably Japanese designer, Akira Ishikawa. Strategy & Tactics #125
