Blackrock Castle has a moderate level of luck involved in the game. Random elements have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. Players have a substantial ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role.
Players explore a castle made up of tiles that are solid on three corners and pivot on the fourth corner, creating a "trapdoor". On your turn you can move as many spaces as you want until you voluntarily stop or fall into one of these trapdoors. The object of the game is to have each of your three knights collect a pair of family portraits that are located in the corner "Portrait Galleries" and then make it to the middle of the board where the Treasury is located. The first player to get all three knights there, wins. The memory element comes into play as you try to remember which paths are the safest route to take as you collect your portraits.
