Table feel

Watten has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth, with frequent interaction among players. However, it does not emphasize cooperation as much.

Replay value

Watten offers a high level of variability with its gameboard, multiple paths to victory, and variable setups. The presence of expansions adds to the replay value, and the game provides deep strategic possibilities for players to explore. The player interaction score is average, and the game scales well with different numbers of players. While it may take some time to learn, the depth it offers makes it worth the effort. Overall, Watten has a strong replayability score of 7.8.

Luck profile

Watten has a moderate influence of luck. Random elements have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome. While players have some ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions, luck still plays a significant role. The game outcome is a balanced mix of luck and strategy.

Overview

A popular Bavarian card game involving elements of betting and bluffing, this game is easy to learn and fun to play, especially by 4 in partnerships. Played with 32-cards, a German pack is usually used (acorns, leaves, hearts, bells) but a French-suited pack (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) will do just as well. The game is a trick-taking one with an interesting mechanism used for selecting the trump suit. Furthermore, when playing towards tricks, in most cases one is not obliged to follow suit! The game is often played in pubs in Bavaria, with the losers buying the drinks. A system of signaling to your partner using a code involving small facial movements is permitted. Your opponents may or may not notice these, and you may in any case be bluffing!
