Table feel

Ocean has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth in confrontation. Players need to frequently pay attention to and react to each other's strategies and turns. However, there is a lower emphasis on cooperation in the game.

Replay value

Ocean has a high replayability score due to its high variability gameboard, expansions available, strategic depth, scalability, and moderate easiness to learn. The game offers different experiences each time it is played, with multiple paths to victory and variable setups. The presence of expansions adds new content and gameplay elements, enhancing the replay value. There is ample room for players to improve their strategy over time, discovering new tactics and strategies. The game adapts well to different player counts without compromising its appeal or balance. While it may take some time to learn, the depth it offers makes it worth the investment.

Luck profile

The final luck score for Ocean is 6.67, indicating a balanced mix of luck and strategy. Random elements have a notable but not exclusive impact on the game outcome, and players have substantial ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role.

Overview

In Ocean, players pilot fishing boats through a world reminiscent of the old "Wa-Tor" population dynamics simulation from A. K. Dewdney's Computer Recreations column in Scientific American. There are three different kinds of breeding fish (represented by shells) that the players are trying to catch. There are also sharks, a wave, and viruses that move around the board according to fixed rules in order to wreak havoc with your plans. The game was originally published as Visjes in 1998. Ocean is the 1999 re-release. Re-implemented by: SeaSim
