Metropolys is a compact spatial bidding game in which urban planners compete to leave the most prestigious mark on a stylized city. A call for proposals begins when a player places any numbered building in an empty neighborhood. Moving clockwise, each rival may pass or outbid by placing a higher-numbered building in an adjacent empty neighborhood, creating a chain that snakes across districts. The final bidder leaves that building standing while every earlier bidder takes their piece back, making high values powerful but permanently scarce. Trendy neighborhoods score bonuses, archaeological sites can cost prestige, and subway tokens reward collection. Family play assigns one broad area objective; Expert play adds hidden neighborhood goals and majority awards for the tallest skyline in each district. The result is an unusually clean auction in which every bid also chooses geography, blocks future routes, and reveals part of a player’s private plan.
