Table feel

The von Reisswitz Kriegsspiel: The Prussian Army Wargame has a high level of direct confrontation and strategic depth. Players frequently need to pay attention to and react to each other's strategies. However, the game does not emphasize cooperation as much.

Replay value

The von Reisswitz Kriegsspiel: The Prussian Army Wargame has a high replayability score due to its high variability gameboard, expansions available, strategic depth, scalability, and moderate easiness to learn. The game offers different experiences each time it is played, with the presence of expansions adding new content and gameplay elements. The game also provides deep strategic possibilities and adapts well to different player counts without compromising its appeal or balance.

Luck profile

The Von Reisswitz Kriegsspiel: The Prussian Army Wargame has a high level of strategic decision-making and minimal reliance on luck. Random elements have minimal impact on the game outcome, and players have substantial ability to mitigate randomness through strategic decisions and planning. The game outcome is primarily determined by player strategy and decisions, with luck playing a minor role.

Overview

A 1983 translation into English and reprint of the original Prussian Kriegspiel map wargame. The book includes all the tables and charts needed to play as well as cardboard units to be cut out and a terrain map for a small battle. Leeson's translation includes some elements from later developments in the game, until about 1870, when the "Rigid Kriegspiel" (rules-based) of Von Reisswitz gave way to the "Free Kriegspiel" system (based on the umpire's judgment and experience). The aim of the rules is well described by the subtitle "Instructions for the Representation of Military Maneuvers with Kriegspiel Apparatus." The book has been reprinted by Too Fat Lardies in 2007.
