Overview

In the beginning of WWII, the Italians, from their Libyan territories, started their strategic expansion toward Egypt, the main British territory in North Africa. The strong British response endangered the presence of the Axis in Africa and forced the Germans to send them an enemy of their size: the legendary Afrika Korps, lead by Marshall Rommel. The movements of the Germans towards El Cairo and the British counteroffensives into Libya ended on the 23rd October 1942 in the decisive battle of El Alamein, that lasted 11 days, where the Afrika Korps, under great supply problems, faced up to the mighty British Eighth Army lead by Lieutenant-General Montgomery.
