Two players assume the role of French politicians trying to keep their heads during the Reign of Terror The game consists of 27 cards with a combination of suit (hearts, diamonds or spades), rank (2, 3 or 4) and sphere (Military, Politics, Mob and Wild). 4 cards exist in a market accessible to both players, cards bought from this are replaced as they are bought. On their turn, a play either: Buys a card from the display, Plays a card from their hand to their Tableau or Use a card in their Tableau. 3 Crisis cards are shuffled into the deck, when these are bought from the market certain cards in player tableaus are purged and players score points. If either player scores 21 points they win, if that doesn't happen before the third crisis, both players are swept up in the Thermidorian Reaction and are sent to the guillotine
