Kites is a real-time cooperative card game that makes a table of sand timers feel like a sky crowded with fabric, string, and sudden gusts. The group begins with the white kite timer running. On each turn, a player plays a card and flips every timer whose color appears on it, then draws a replacement card. Because the timers hold different amounts of sand, the team must communicate constantly: one kite may be moments from falling while another has time to spare, and the card needed to rescue both may be in someone else’s hand. The goal is to exhaust the entire deck without allowing any timer to run out. Challenge cards can introduce tangled lines, crossed signals, and other disruptions after the basic game is comfortable, making the same ten-minute framework steadily harder. There are no individual turns to optimize in isolation; success comes from concise warnings, shared awareness, and trusting the next player to see the danger you cannot fix. Kites teaches in minutes, plays at full speed, and turns each narrow escape into a collective cheer.
